President Nicolae Timofti had a phone discussion with the Romanian president Traian Basescu

President of the Republic of Moldova Nicolae Timofti had today, 11 September current year, a phone conversation with the Romanian President Traian Basescu on the bilateral relations between the two countries.

The two heads of state voiced joint willing to bolster the political and economic ties between Moldova and Romania and boost the cooperation on issues concerning Moldova’s European integration.

President Basescu expressed Romania’s willingness to substantially increase the imports of wines and other types of farming products from Moldova, following a recent decision by Russia to block the Moldovan wines’ import. Traian Basescu underlined that he would make recommendations on the matter to the Romanian Government and specialised trade societies.

Also, Nicolae Timofti and Traian Basescu agreed to make demarches in order to maximally speed up the construction of the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline and other energy projects earlier agreed upon by the Moldovan-Romanian presidents and Governments.

The presidents of the Republic of Moldova and Romania also agreed that boosting the economic relations between the two countries was a natural expression of Moldova’s European integration process and would represent one of the advantages of concluding the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between Moldova and the European Union at the forthcoming summit of the Eastern Partnership in Vilnius.
