President Maia Sandu discussed with the Secretary General of the International Organisation of the Francophonie, Louise Mushikiwabo

On the eve of the International Day of the Francophonie, the head of state met the Secretary General of the International Organisation of the Francophonie (OIF), Louise Mushikiwabo, who was on a visit to Chisinau. The Republic of Moldova is one of the 88 member countries of the great OIF family - the French-speaking world being an area of solidarity and cooperation to which we belong.

"We have a long-standing partnership with the Francophonie University Agency which, in 2022, opened a national office in Chisinau, and now students from six universities have the opportunity to train as specialists in French. Eight high schools in the country have French-speaking bilingual classes, and this year the State University of Moldova began training future professors to teach mathematics, physics and biology in French in bilingual classes. Civil servants can also study French under the National Francophone Initiative programme," she said.

President Maia Sandu thanked the Secretary-General for the OIF's support to the associative sector and for the linguistic training of the Carabiniers of the Ministry of Interior. "We count on the support of OIF in the fight against propaganda and disinformation. In this context, I mentioned that the Francophonie operator TV5Monde was recently included in the mandatory list of TV channels of cable media service distributors," the head of state added.
