President Maia Sandu met yesterday with Rémy Rioux, the General Director of the French Development Agency (AFD), during a working visit to Paris. The Head of State welcomed the opening of the AFD office in Chisinau this year and the support provided by the Agency to several key sectors in the country.
In particular, President Maia Sandu thanked for the financial assistance of 15 million euros granted this year to cover the needs of the budget in the social, health and education sectors, as well as the 60 million that will come by the end of 2022, for the railway and renewable energy sectors. Similarly, President Maia Sandu mentioned the support provided by AFD to modernize the energy infrastructure, which will allow us to bring the "Moldelectrica" network in line with European standards, and the support provided by the Agency to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development for the modernization of the railway sector.
In terms of sustainable development of the country, AFD will continue to provide support through the implementation of projects in three key areas: the creation of electricity interconnections and energy efficiency in buildings, reforestation and irrigation, and the modernisation of water supply and sanitation systems.
